Tuition, Payments, and Refunds

  • Tuition is paid when enrolling in a course and it guarantees space in a class. Registrations that remain unpaid after 48 hours will be voided.
  • Tuition is charged per course and is listed under each course in the course offering section of the website.
  • A technology fee is charged to all students. Cost is included in the price of each class and is used to upgrade technology.
  • Proof of Colorado residency is required.
  • Tuition is periodically reviewed by school administrators and is subject to change without notification.
  • Payment arrangements are required at the time of registration.

Non-Resident Tuition

Under Colorado law, a person must have lived in Colorado for one full calendar year prior to school enrollment to be entitled to resident tuition rates. For persons not residing in the state of Colorado for one year prior to date of starting class and for visa students, nonresident tuition is computed at $100 additional per credit hour.

Resident Information

In accordance with HB06S-1023, which was signed into law by the Governor on July 31, 2006, CCHE and the institutions of higher education are required to verify the lawful presence of all applicants for public postsecondary education benefits. Starting August 1, 2006 Emily Griffith Opportunity School requires that all students provide documentation that they are legally in the United States.

Method of Payment

Cash, check, VISA or MasterCard may be used to pay tuition and fees. There is a charge for returned checks. All tuition and fees are payable at the time of registration. Registrations not paid for in 48 hours will be deleted from the system. Students have access to payment plans and financial aid. Students receiving agency or employer-sponsored funding must have a billing authorization at the time of registration. Invoices to third party agencies include a $5 per credit hour service fee. No personal checks are accepted for services such as testing, barber/cosmetology services, deli/bakery purchases, or bus passes.

Returned checks will be charged a $20 fee each time it is presented to the bank.

  • No refunds of any fees will be given after 15 percent of the course has expired.
  • All refunds (except credit card refunds) will be mailed by check within seven business days. Credit card refunds will be processed within seven business days.

Financial Aid

Emily Griffith Opportunity School offers eligible students financial assistance through:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Payment Plans
  • Colorado Work-Study
  • EGOS Foundation Scholarships
  • Colorado Need Based Grant
  • Other

Students need to be prepared to pay initial costs (25% of tuition and fees plus 100% of books and materials) with their own funds since these types of financial aid do not provide immediate assistance.

Students may be able to receive more than one type of assistance. All financial aid is for undergraduate students. Federal and State student aid is awarded on a one-year basis. The award period begins with the start of the fall session and ends in July at the completion of the nine-month school year (mid-July to mid-July.) Students may apply for and receive financial aid during more than one award period. Financial aid students need to follow all rules and regulations of Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

Academic Progress

A student must maintain a C average or better or P in a Pass/Fail course.

Measurable Progress

A student needs to demonstrate that he/she is making measurable progress toward program completion. A student may have 120 percent of program length to complete a program. For instance, a nine-month program may be completed in 10.8 months. Progress is measured on a monthly basis.

Attendance

A student needs to meet the attendance policy for the program area. Attendance policies vary among departments.

Grants and Scholarships

Federal Pell Grant

To be considered for financial aid at Opportunity School, including the Federal Pell Grant, Colorado Need Based Grant, and Colorado Work Study, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every academic year.

Students need to enroll in a Pell-eligible program. A listing of the eligible programs is available in the Financial Aid Office.

A student needs to attend one month before he/she is eligible for funds. The first disbursement will be at least six weeks after enrollment begins. See Pell schedule for exact payment dates.

Payment Plan

A payment plan is available to students who cannot pay the tuition and fees in full at the time of enrollment. There is a $20 per semester fee for this service, which is due when the payment plan is set up. By the first day of class, the student needs to pay for any kits, books, and materials plus 25% of the course or semester tuition and fees. Some classes require a larger down payment due to the length of the class.

The balance is paid in installments. The final payment will be due no later than four weeks prior to the last day of class. Any deviation from this schedule without prior approval will be a breach in the terms of this agreement. Should this occur, the total balance will be due and payable in full immediately or the student will be withdrawn from class. Default on any payment plan will result in no further payment plans for the student.

Payment plans are not available for distance learning courses or for courses less than 30 days in length. Some courses/programs may have different payment requirements.
