General Information Emily Griffith Opportunity School is the Denver Public Schools' adult education complex. Fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and the Colorado Community College System, the school has operated continuously since 1916. The school currently serves approximately 10,000 students annually and offers more than 500 day and evening classes. Emily Griffith Opportunity School is the nations oldest and most experienced technical college. We welcome all people, regardless of age, race or education level, who want to expand their horizons and chart their own course for success. Book and Tool InformationMany courses, have additional costs for textbooks. Students are responsible for providing their own books. Call 720-423-4712 for more information. Books for the College of Health Science programs and courses are purchased from University of Colorado Health Sciences Book Store (303-315-5735). Books for all other programs and courses are purchased from Specialty Books online or Big Dog Textbooks, 1331 15th Street Denver, CO 80202, 303-893-2443. Tools: Many career/technical courses require students to provide their own tools. The school specifies the tools students must purchase for their training. Tools are available from a number of local sources. Approximate costs for books and tools may be found at the registration counter or by calling 720-423-4712. Class CancellationsClasses are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment or for any other reason determined by the administration. In the event of inclement weather, classes will be held as scheduled unless Opportunity School administration cancels classes. Such notice will be communicated by radio and/or television. Credit TransferThere is now an easy way for Opportunity School students to earn an AAS degree! Students may apply credit from approved Opportunity School career/technical courses toward an Associates Degree in Applied Technology. The credit transfers to any of the Colorado public community/junior colleges including the six metro area community colleges - Aims, Arapahoe, Front Range, Red Rocks, Aurora, and Denver. Up to 42 semester credits of a state approved EGOS career/technical program may be credited to the community colleges AAS Degree in Applied Technology. To complete an AAS degree, the student must complete at least 15-18 hours of academic courses at the community college. For more information, talk to an Opportunity School advisor. TranscriptsRequest a transcript in person at the Student Records Office or via mail at 1250 Welton St., Denver, CO 80204. Official transcripts are $3.00 payable in check, cash or money order. Please allow five business days to process the request. Transcripts will not be released to students with unmet financial obligations. A transcript is official only if it bears the seal of Emily Griffith Opportunity School and the signature of the student records officer. Transcript information is confidential and can only be released to certain officials, institutions, prospective employers, etc., upon receipt of a record release form signed by the student. Graduation RequirementsStudents must pass program required course work with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better and complete all required courses that make up a program of study in the career area of choice. Students may also be required to pass industry, state, or federal assessments that provide licensure to those who pass. This licensure allows the student to gain employment in those respective fields. Student Identification CardsStudent identification cards are available from instructors or in the Directors Office, room 216. Student photo identification cards are available in the TANF office, room 240, for $4; call 720-423-4927. Photo identification is required in the following situations:
